To build strong bones it is essential to balance calcium with magnesium. Our formula is designed to provide a healthy calcium/magnesium balance which promotes maximum calcium absorption. Taking calcium/magnesium also supports bone health.
Though 99% of calcium is found in your bones, the other one percent that circulates through you blood stream is equally important to maintaining good health. Every cell in the body needs calcium, which helps maintain proper muscle contraction and relaxation, nerve transmission, blood clotting, and heart health. Many enzymes rely upon calcium to ensure proper functioning including those reactions in the body that help produce energy. We've added vitamin D to this formula to help the body better absorb and retain calcium, and to support the transport of calcium from the blood stream to your bones.
The bones are the storage site for the body's calcium. When there is not enough calcium in the blood to be used by the heart and other organs, your body will take the calcium from the bones to meet its day-to-day needs. This small amount of calcium keeps blood and cellular calcium levels within the proper range. ProHealth's potent 600mg formula is designed to meet your entire body's calcium needs for optimized bone strength and blood levels.
Magnesium: Magnesium is a nutrient needed for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body and is fundamental to a number of important physical processes, including converting carbohydrates and protein into ATP (the body's energy source), blood clotting, activating B vitamins and relaxing muscles. Magnesium boosts the activity of several enzyme systems needed for neurochemical communication, and is needed to transport electrolytes like potassium and sodium in and out of cells for optimal cell health and functioning. Furthermore, magnesium assists in calcium and potassium absorption.
Study shows calcium supports strong and healthy bones In a clinical trial performed at the Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health,* researchers set out to confirm the benefits of calcium and vitamin D for improved bone strength. In the study, 389 older men and women received 500 mg of calcium and 700 I.U. of vitamin D or placebo for a period of three years. Results showed the group taking calcium and vitamin D helped maintain bone strength and decreased bone fractures compared to placebo.
According to the study's author, "Optimal intake of both calcium and vitamin D may be an easily implemented strategy to maintain existing bone mass and reduce the risk of fracture in older men and women." - Kimberly O. O'Brien, Ph.D., associate professor, Johns Hopkins University.
